Dortmund had a long tradition of wrestling dated back to the beginning of the german professional scene in the late 19th century. The highest period starts with a

successful reorganization initiated by german promoter Gustl Kaiser in 1966. Two years later Kaiser's protege Nicola Selenkowitsch ("Nico") took over the business.

A retired professional wrestler, Nico was one of the most powerful promoters in Germany during the 1960s, 70s and 80s. In the 1970s and 80s Dortmund was a major

place for german wrestling like Hanover, Bremen, Berlin (West Berlin), Hamburg, Munich, Karlsruhe and Krefeld. It was the second important place for promoter

Nico Selenkowitsch behind his headquarter Bremen. Every year he promoted long tournaments in both citys, Bremen and Dortmund. During the 1970s Dortmund's

wrestling scene was at his highest point. Nico retired in 1986, the 1987 season was canceled. Otto Wanz & Peter William promoted under the CWA banner from 1988

until 91. On 10th November 1991 Buffalo Patterson won the last tournament. It was the end of a long and successful era.
