The wrestling world has been in mourning this week, as this past Monday we received the very sad news that international Scottish wrestler Drew McDonald had lost his brave battle with cancer and had passed away at home with his life long partner Monika at his side.
Tributes were received from wrestlers, promoters and wrestling fans from around the world as news broke of Drews passing.  We here at the Reunion have been in regular contact with Monika and she, along with the rest of the family, are overwhelmed with the messages of support that they have received since Monday.
Drews funeral will be taking place on Wednesday 18th February at Cottingley Hall Crematorium, (near Elland Road) Leeds, LS11 0EU and the wake will be held at Burley Conservative Club, Bankfield Gardens, Leeds, LS4 2JS.   Moinika and the family have requested no flowers but anyone attending (and we know that there will be 100s) wear something orange.

 

 

When news of Drews illness came to light a few weeks ago, Ricky Knight and his team at World Association of Wrestling immediately started making arrangements for a 'fundraising' show in aid of Drew with all proceeds going to him and his family.  Sadly, Drew will never get to see just how much he was thought of by the wrestling fraternity but the show will proceed and it will take place tomorrow, Sunday 15th February, at Owen Barnes Centre, Breckland Road, Costessey with a start time of 6.30pm.  This show is sure to be a tear jerking event for everyone involved in the wrestling world but at the same time will be a fitting tribute to one of the gentle giants of the ring.  For those who are unable to get to the show but would like to make a donation this can be done by using paypal and sending your payment to waw1994@hotmail.co.uk.
Drew McDonald has been added to the Dressing Room in the Sky and a comprehensive obituary has also been added to the relevant section on the Reunion website at www.britishwrestlersreunion.com. which includes tributes to Drew from some of the greats of the wrestling world.  We have also opened a tribute thread to Drew in the Reunion forum for anyone wishing to pay their respects.
Drew was a legend of wrestling, he will always be remembered by those who were priviledged to know him either personally or professionally.  Drew entertained wrestling fans around around the globe and the world is a sadder place now that he is no longer part of it.  Drew was a great man, a great wrestler and a credit to the wrestling industry and may he RIP.
